Daniel Stahley began his legal career in the small town of Valparaiso, Indiana, about an hour outside of Chicago, where he clerked for a personal injury law firm and handled everything from trucking cases, to medical malpractice and device cases to class action claims. He also volunteered his time at his law school’s legal clinic, providing free legal services to individuals in divorce, paternity, custody and land-lord tenant disputes.
Dan has been licensed to practice law in Minnesota since 2006. After graduating from law school, he worked as a judicial law clerk in St. Peter, Minnesota, where he learned a wide variety of practice areas because a small town practice is not conductive to specializing in specific areas of the law. After his clerkship, Dan cut his teeth in the insurance defense world at a nearby mid-sized law firm, where he handled Coverage, Subrogation, First-Party, and general civil defense claims, and continues to handle insurance defense matters at Provo-Petersen & Associates, P.A. Dan prefers working at a small firm where he has the opportunity to handle criminal defense, family law, workers’ compensation, and other general practice matters while still focusing on civil defense matters.
Dan is active in the Ramsey County Bar Association, where he is the volunteer outreach chair for the new lawyers section. He is also a Saint Paul District Council board member for Dayton’s Bluff, where he works on zoning, land use, neighborhood planning and revitalization issues. Dan is also a current volunteer attorney for SMRLS, a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to clients who cannot afford an attorney.
In his spare time, Dan is an avid home-brewer, enjoys riding his scooter around town, following the Twins and Gophers, and traveling. Dan picked up the travel bug while working for the European Union in Brussels, Belgium. He has recently visited Morocco, Argentina, Croatia and Montreal.
